Two years ago I discovered Robert Treat Farm in Milford, CT. This inconspicuous red barn located in the Woodmont section of Milford is a hidden gem for plants, veggies, eggs, milk, cheese, breads….basically all things local and delicious! It is my favorite place to be from May – October and I want to share it’s awesomeness with you!
Inside the barn is the farm store where you can get a variety of local and specialty products. It’s a treasure trove of goodness!
New to the farm this year are chickens, so the eggs couldn’t get any fresher. There is milk and yogurt available from Smyth’s Trinity Farm (the heavy cream makes the BEST whipped cream!), fresh mozzarella from Liuzzi’s, and a variety of other local treasures in the dairy cases.
There is a great gluten-free section that popped up this year, but there are also many specialty items for the gluten lovers alike. This includes locally made pasta and sauces!
From July – October, the farm stand is open just outside the barn. This is my FAVORITE area with fresh fruits and veggies as far as the eye can see. Much of the produce if grown right there on the farm, but they also bring in a lot of other items to really make it a one-stop shop. The items change as the season changes and it just gets better as the summer goes on. Homegrown corn and tomatoes should be ready any day now…can’t wait!
A great thing about Robert Treat Farm is their Farm Share (CSA) Membership program. I took part in this last year and it was so much fun! Every week I would get a new basket of veggies based on what was fresh that week. I tried so many new things that I probably never would’ve picked up, like kohlrabi and fava beans. I didn’t participate this year because I knew I would be traveling a lot at the end of the summer and I have to say I really miss it! You can read all about my 20 weeks of CSA goodness from last year over on Running at Disney!
Robert Treat Farm also has a large garden center. In fact, I got all of the plants in my front yard from there and my hydrangeas and lavender are looking BEAUTIFUL this year!
As an added bonus, the farm hosts the Woodmont Farmer’s Market every Wednesday from July – September. This is a wonderful community event with live music, kid’s activities, and local vendors. You can get fresh seafood, grass-fed meats, baked goods, jewelry, tamales, and even pizza!
Yesterday, I got some amazing products at the farmer’s market and was able to go home and make this super healthy and delicious dinner. YUM!
I can’t even begin to say how lucky I am to have Robert Treat Farm about 2 miles from my house. It makes eating clean and local products so much easier! Plus, I love supporting the community and local businesses. So if you’re ever in the area, make sure to stop by!
